Teditorial: A Good World After All

All it takes is one act of kindness, nothing big, but it changes the world for everyone it touches.

By: Teddy Locsin Jr.

Blaize Richard is a mentally disabled autistic boy, ABC News reports. It has been his life''s dream to be a police officer. Since his 18th birthday, Blaize Richard has been sporting a police uniform. He is often in the company of Louisiana Police Officer Mike Hill, who calls Blaize his back-up. Officer Hill is a decorated much respected cop who, superiors say, serves over and beyond the call of duty. In short, Hill had better things to do but he didn't think so. He put the autistic boy under his wing instead.

It started when his mom asked the Louisiana Police Deparment to send someone over for Blaize's 18th birthday. Officer Hill showed up with a uniform for Blaize. Weeks later, Blaize was invited to hang out at the deparment. Hill visits frequently, once after he got a new police car. 'It really makes Blaize's day,' says his mom, who posted their photo on Facebook that went viral.

On Feb. 2, Blaize will be commissioned an honorary policeman. The entire deparment is excited but also worried that with all the publicity that Hill is hiding from, Blaize's commission won't come as a surprise.

All it takes is one act of kindness, nothing big, but it changes the world for everyone it touches or allows it to touch them. Life notwithstanding, God gave us a good world and it is we who make it good.

Keep well.
