Teditorial: True Contrition

If we were Japanese, the entire gov't would be bald.

By: Teddy Locsin Jr.

Finally, Celdran was sincerely sorry for his stunt and I can prove it. Dominque Mosbergen writes in Huffington Post that Japanese pop star Minami Minegishi shaved her head and cried on Youtube that she is sorry.

She was photographed leaving her boyfriend's apartment. This violated the first rule of the massively popular pop group AKB48: no dating so as to maintain, wrote Dominique, the illlusion of youthful innocence. But it is not an illusion, it is a reality as showed by Minami's swift demotion back to trainee, she will likely be expelled.

Minami shaved her head, described what she did as thoughtless and immature, we can use those words, and expressed her unworthiness to be forgiven. I like that touch. Carlos practice it. Merely hoped she would be allowed to stay in the band but would understand if she was fired. Give it to the Japanese when they say they are sorry, they prove it. If we were Japanese, the entire govt would be bald. I wonder what the president is sorry for?

This brings me to Carlos Celdran, who was convicted of notoriously offending religious feelings for the stunt he pulled in the cathedral. Frankly, it wasn't notoriously offensive. But be that as it may, Carlos not only said he was sorry twice, but he was sorry even before he pulled his stunt because Carlos has kept his head shaved since he started stalking Intramuros as a tour guide. If that is not sincere not to say preemptive contrition, tell me what is. So if the Church has to go out of its way and shout at the judge to drop the case, let it do so. Carlos is a mere distraction, the Church has bigger fish to fry in the coming elections to prove it is still a force in a no longer Catholic country. Keep well.
